I’M A LIBERAL AND I’M OKAY!
During the first debate, McCain accused Obama of being the most liberal Senator in Washington. The talk today is that Palin will also attack Biden for being liberal. I wish instead of Obama saying he looked liberal just because he opposed Bush, he had said, “Yeah. I am. And I’m proud of it.” I wish he followed that up with, “You conservatives took us into an unjust war that has killed thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. You Conservatives still haven’t yet found the man who attacked us. You Conservatives brought us to the brink of economic depression. You failed with Katrina, you rescinded Habeas Corpus, and you brought politics into the judicial system. You accuse me of being Liberal, and I stand proud to be one. But considering all the bad you’ve done to our country, how can you be proud to call yourself a Conservative.”The Republicans long ago successful made liberal a dirty word and the Democrats just nod and shuffle and let that happen then adopted the word progressive to take its place. As I say, I wish Obama had turned the tables on McCain and I pray Biden will do that tonight when Palin brings out that Liberal somehow equals monster or even worse, Commie card. Being a liberal is good. It means caring about others who need help. It means looking ahead instead of being obsessed by days long gone. If we want to take back the White House, and not just for one term, we need to stand up and be proud of what we are. If we continue to let the Republicans define us, then we accept standing in their shadow.
